We are currently not accepting applications for Brazil due to a suspension on adoptions in the state we work in. Please see our blog for updates.
From application until arriving home with child is approximately 14 – 18 months. The greatest factor that impacts the length of the adoption is the adoptive family’s child request information. The more specific a family is the more difficult it will be for the adoption authorities in Brazil to make a referral match. Families requesting one child, ages 8-9, can expect a much longer wait.
The children available from Brazil are older children (8+) and sibling groups. It’s possible that when adopting a sibling group one or more of the children will be under the age of five. There are more sibling groups than single children available for adoption. Sibling groups can be two, three, four or even larger.
Brazil doesn’t have an age-limit for adoptive families. Adoptive applicants must be at least sixteen years older than the child adopted.
Married couples and single women may adopt from Brazil. Married couples should be married for at least 2 years.
Divorces in a family’s past will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Children in Family
There are no restrictions as to the number of children in a family.
Families must be able to show they can adequately provide financially for their children. A family’s income and full financial status will be evaluated as part of the adoption process.
Any criminal history will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Medical & Psychological History
Adoptive applicants must show that they are physically and mentally fit to parent a child by adoption.
Travel to Country
Families will be in Brazil for a period of approximately six weeks. This includes the thirty day guardianship period and then processing adoption visas with the US Consulate in Rio de Janiero. Both adoptive parents must travel for the entire time. America World will help arrange travel, including flights and living accommodations.
