Processing Time
|
From application to flying home with your child takes
approximately 16-28 months. Wait time for referral is 12-18 months.

Children Available
|
8-36 months available on limited basis. 3-15 years old. There is no guarantee that age of the child referred to you will be the same age as the child you request; referrals are dependent upon what age of child is available at the time you are up for referral.

Parents' Age
|
In order to adopt a healthy child, applicants must be 25–45 years older than the child requested for adoption.
|
|
Marriage Status
|
Couples who have been married
for 5 years or more may adopt either healthy or special needs children. Single women are also eligible to adopt.

|
Divorce
|
Permitted (maximum of two per spouse).
|
|
Children in Family
|
AWAA requires that if families become pregnant at any point during their process, they will have to withdraw from their adoption and wait until their birth child is 6 months old before resubmitting their dossier.

|
Income
|
Joint income must be at least $10,000 per member of the household, including your adopted child. A single parent's income must be at least $30,000.
|
|
Criminal History
|
Criminal records for minor incidents, which are at least 10 years old, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. No multiple offenses.

|
Medical History
|
Medications and mental health diagnoses and treatment are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
|
|
Travel to Country
|
Both parents are required to travel. Families should plan on spending approximately 2-3 weeks total in El Salvador.
