Haiti Requirements

America World has recently been licensed to process adoptions in Haiti. The program is open and accepting applications.
Processing Time
From referral until arriving home with a child is 18 - 24 months. The greatest determining factor is the adoptive family's child request information.
Children Available
The children available from Haiti include infants to 14 years of age. Healthy boys and girls are available for adoption, as well as children with special needs. Sibling groups and unrelated children are also available.
Parents' Ages
Both parents must be age 35 and one parent must be under 50. If adopting a child over 5, an exception may be made for parents over 50. Both parents must be at least 15 years older than the child. Couples with documented infertility issues must be 30 years old and married 5+ years.
Marriage Status
Married couples and single women may adopt from Haiti. Married couples must be married a minimum of 10 years at the time of application.
Divorce
No more than two divorces permitted per family.
Children in Family
Families with no more than 2 biological children under the age of 18 already living in the home may adopt from Haiti. There is no limit to the number of adopted children in the home. A presidential waiver may be granted to waive these requirements on a case by case basis.
Income
Families must be able to show they can adequately provide financially for their children. A family’s income and full financial status will be evaluated as part of the adoption process.
Criminal History
Any criminal history will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Medical History
Applicants must show that they are physically and mentally fit to parent a child by adoption. A letter from your physicial and a psychological report will be required along with the home study report.
Travel to Country
This is a two-trip process. Both parents must travel for the court process in Haiti (2-5 days) and again to bring the child home (2-5 days).
Post Adoption
Post adoption reports are due at 1, 6, 12 & 18 months, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years. The reports at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months are written by a social worker and the remaining reports are self reports written by the family.
