Processing Time
Application through dossier submission will take approximately 4-7 months. The wait time from dossier approval through referral can vary and is anticipated to be 2-6 months. After accepting a referral it can take an additional 2-4 months to wait for other approvals and to travel. Families will stay in Kenya for 6- 12 months to complete the adoption process.
Children Available
Boys and girls ages 12 months and older. Children can be healthy or have a medical need.
Parent's Ages
Both spouses must be between 25 and 45 years old.
Marriage Status
Couples must be married a minimum of 3 years. Single women can adopt a child with special needs.
Divorce
Permitted, but with a maximum of two per spouse. (America World restriction)
Children in Family
There are no restrictions as to the number of children in a family.
Income
Families must be able to show they can adequately provide financially for their children. Your income and full financial status will be evaluated as part of the adoption process.
Criminal History
No criminal history permitted. Minor instances reviewed on a case by base basis.
Medical History
Major and chronic medical issues that require medication are reviewed on a case by base basis.
Travel to Country
Both parents must be present for the bonding period and court appointments. Length of stay in country is 6-12 months. A three month bonding period is required. The additional timeframe will depend on the court schedules and appointments.
Post Adoption
Post adoption reports are due at 1 month (AWAA self report) and then reports written by the social worker are completed at 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60 months from when the family has returned home.
